Byte converter: TB to GB and beyond

Size up your next creative project.

Convert between bits, bytes, MB, GB and TB, or use their binary equivalents. Compare a delivery, a photo shoot or your video archive without leaving your browser.

Edit either field. Use a decimal point or comma, without thousands separators.

Results use up to 12 significant digits. Very large or small values use scientific notation.

Every file counts. Find the one you need

Keep photos, videos and references in your creative library and retrieve material for your next project.

From terabytes to gigabytes in one step

Select TB on one side and GB on the other. Enter your library size: 1 TB equals 1,000 GB and 2.5 TB equals 2,500 GB. You can also type in the destination field to calculate in reverse.

Check the size of a delivery

If an exported video is 2,500 MB, it takes up 2.5 GB. Using the same unit helps you compare versions, check delivery limits and estimate the space a project needs.

A reference for your creative work

Compare originals with exports, add libraries from different projects and plan space for a backup. This tool converts sizes; it does not need access to your files.

MB and MiB are different units

Decimal units increase by factors of 1,000. Binary units such as MiB and GiB increase by factors of 1,024. This is why 1 GB is approximately 0.9313 GiB.

Understand your library’s units

From bits to terabytes: the same amount of information can be expressed in different ways.

What is the difference between a bit and a byte?

A bit represents a binary value, 0 or 1. A byte contains 8 bits. Uppercase B means bytes; bit means bits.

How many bytes are in a kilobyte?

1 kB is 1,000 bytes. A kibibyte (KiB) is 1,024 bytes.

How many MB are in a GB?

1 GB equals 1,000 MB. In binary units, 1 GiB equals 1,024 MiB.

How many GB are in a TB?

1 TB equals 1,000 GB. A tebibyte (TiB) equals 1,024 GiB.

Which units come after terabytes?

Petabytes, exabytes, zettabytes and yottabytes. The converter also includes their binary equivalents, from PiB to YiB.

Questions about the converter

Are my amounts or files sent to Polimake?
No. Calculations run in your browser and no files are uploaded. The usage counter stays in this browser; we do not send tool usage analytics.
How often can I use it?
You get one session without an account and 10 daily sessions per tool with a free account, counted in this browser. Change amounts and units within a session. Leaving or reloading the page ends it.
Why might a 1 TB drive show about 931 GiB?
The same capacity is being expressed in a different unit: 1 TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, approximately 931.32 GiB. Formatting and system files can also reduce available space.
Can I calculate how long an upload will take?
This converter measures sizes, not times or speeds. Estimating an upload also requires your connection speed and distinguishing megabytes from megabits per second.
